Last night E says to me "Mommy, I just am going to have two kids okay."
Me "oh like pretend?"
E "No mommy when I'm a mommy I'm just going to have two kids."
Me "Well why only two?"
E " Well I just have two kids right now and one in my tummy."
Me "I'm confused, do you want two kids or do you have two kids?"
E "I just have two kids right now and one in my tummy."
Me "oh okay, well what are your kids names?"
E "Kaylee and Kaden. but I'm just going to have two kids some day."
Me "oookay (in a confused tone)"
I have no idea what she meant by all this, but the only thing I could think of is that she is pretending she is me with two kids and has another baby in her tummy, which I DO NOT have another baby in MY tummy but I think she is wishing I did, i don't know what else to get from that whole conversation.
Friday after coming home from the butterfly exhibit I say to E "we have to hurry home and get you ready to go to your friends house". She asked "why?" and I say "Because Daddy and I are going on a date and they are going to watch you and J." E "but why are you going on a date?" I say "because we love each other and we want to be together alone." E says in smart voice "Oh that's a good thing I guess." I laughed and said "YEAH it's a really good thing." I'm glad she realizes it's a good thing that her parents love each other, it also made me realize we need to let our kids know it more often. We say we love each other all the time we cuddle in front of them often but I don't think I say to E how much I love her Daddy and maybe I'll start doing that more. I think it's such an important thing for kids to KNOW their parents love each other and know that they'll always be a happy family even if there are "disagreements" or "bad days" they still need to know how much in love their parents are. It's funny how such a simple comment from such a young child can make me think deeper about our family, this is why kids are so great!
A few nights back I tell E we have to start getting ready for bed. She says "I want to take a bath." I tell her "no you took one this morning you don't need a bath, it's late and time to go to bed." E then thinks for a second and says "well I will just let my kids take a bath at night, because I think they would like it." Me "well that's good but you're still not going to take one tonight." E still trying to convince me "well I would let my kids take a bath when they want."
Me "well that's nice of you, are you trying to convince me to let you take a bath is that why you are telling me you'd let your kids?" E in a whiny disappointed voice "yeah." I think she knew it wasn't working. C and I cracked up about it because she was sooo trying to find a way to make us feel bad about not letting her take a bath so she thought "well if I tell them I'd let my kids then maybe they'll let me." I love her thought process, she is so easy to read some times.
This morning
E "look at me momma."
Me "yes E I'm looking at you, what?"
E "I'm a princess right?"
Me "yes, you look like one." she was wearing her princess dress-up dress
E in a some what demanding voice "Wellllll then I need some make up on, princesses have to have make up on!"
Ooohh the joys of having a girl!
This one is not some thing E said but I believe she probably would say some thing like this, well any dramatic little girl would say some thing like this.
In sunbeams we were talking about being thankful for animals. We then talked about Noah's Ark. I was telling the story saying "The Lord told Noah to build and Ark because he was going to flood the earth." I then ask them if they knew what that meant to flood some thing, and this little girl says "I have an owchy" and I say "oh I'm sorry, but we're talking about the flood okay." and the little girl scrunches her eye brows and says "well my owchy is a flood to me." C and I just started laughing. And I'm sure it was a flood to her! There are a lot of things in my life that feel like a flood to me, like overwhelming children and rarely getting a break from them! I told her mother that story and her mom said that this owchy has been a flood for the whole family, apparently she won't stop talking about it.
Last one I promise!
We were at the hospital extension to get E's hearing tested. I had three kids with me my two and the little girl I babysit. They were all so good, I was happy because it took them FOREVER to get us back there to get it done with. Any way that is another story, but while we were waiting in the waiting room people were coming and going and admiring "my children" they thought all three were mine and I didn't correct them, it's just easier to sit back and say nothing. So one of the nurses comes out from the back and announces to the front desk people that she is going on break now.
E says "mom what is break mean?"
I say "this is her job and she is just taking a break and then she'll come back."
keep in mind the waiting room is full and the nurse hasn't left yet and they could all hear this conversation.
E "oh, it's her job?"
me "yep"
E "you have a job mommy." they just had a week at school where they talked about what their parents "do" for their jobs.
Me "yes I do and what is my job E, do you remember?"
E "your my mommy?"
Me "yep, I'm your mommy and my job is to take care of you right?"
all the other moms and the nurse are smiling and laughing a little at how cute this little conversation was.
E then says in a worried voice "but mommy, do you get a break?"
me "NOPE, not even when you are asleep!"
E "not even when I'm asleep, wow!"
Me "yeah my job is never ending, tough right?"
E "yeah mommy it's hard."
By this point all the women are like AMEN! It was a nice feeling that, even though it was only for a second, my daughter realized my job was tough and that I don't get a break. Except for when my loving husband is so kind as to let me go to Vegas for four days, that was a NICE BREAK! But I don't think I'll be doing that again for a long time. Now if only she'd realize my job is hard when she decides to throw a fit, then maybe she'd think twice before doing it.
